Comparison of knot strength of PE line

Among fishing lines, polyethylene (PE) line (braided) has become increasingly popular. A Japanese company recently conducted tests on the strength of various PE line knots and published the results. However, this test was conducted under test conditions set by the purifier using the PE line and leader selected by the purifier using the tester of their choice. Therefore, if the type of PE line, the type of tester, and the test conditions change, different results may be obtained. Therefore, it is recommended to use it only as reference material.

With the spread of PE lines, various knotting techniques have emerged. To answer the question, “Which knot is the strongest?”, knot strength was tested. The results revealed that there was a difference of more than twofold from the PR knot, which has 100% strength, to the Uni knot, which has around 50% strength.

It would be nice to always be able to use a 100% strength knot, but there are times when you have no choice but to use a different knot due to various reasons such as time constraints. Therefore, I think it is best to use it appropriately depending on the target fish species, fishing method, and situation.
